A US federal judge on Monday set March 4, 2024, for former President Donald Trump's election subversion conspiracy trial, placing one of the biggest criminal cases in American history in peak election season.
The start, a full two years before the date proposed by the defense, is on the eve of Super Tuesday, when more than a dozen states will pick between Trump and one of his rivals to be the 2024 Republican presidential election candidate.
A detained Russian who worked at a US consulate is accused of collecting information for US diplomats.
AP correspondent Mimmi Montgomery reports.
Russia's leading security agency says the detained former US consulate employee is accused of gathering information about Russian actions in Ukraine and other issues on orders from US diplomats.
The agency says Robert Shonov is suspected of gathering information about the special military operation, mobilization processes in Russian regions and protest activities of the population in the run up to the 2024 presidential election.
It also says it's aiming to question two American diplomats who allegedly instructed Shonov. His arrest was reported earlier this year without Russia giving details at the time.
The US condemns the arrest.

US President Joe Biden will visit Vietnam next month to meet with top officials on issues ranging from technology and the economy to regional stability and climate change as Washington eyes closer ties in a region where China looms large.
President Biden will travel to Hanoi, Vietnam, on September 10, following his participation in the G20 Summit in New Delhi.
While in Hanoi, President Biden will meet with key leaders to discuss ways to deepen the cooperation between the United States and Vietnam.
