The United Nations warned on Monday that 800,000 people may flee Sudan as rival military factions battled in the capital despite a supposed ceasefire.
Reuters correspondent Zachary Goldman reports.
Sudan's UN humanitarian coordinator, Abdou Dieng, warned of a [quote], “full-blown catastrophe.”
As you know, it has been more than two weeks of devastating fighting in Sudan, a conflict that is turning Sudan humanitarian crisis into a full-blown catastrophe.
Hundreds of people have been killed and thousands wounded in battles that erupted between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, or RSF, in the middle of April.
Foreign governments have pulled out their citizens over the past week in a series of operations by air, sea and land.

The UN Human Rights Office reports hundreds of thousands of Sudanese civilians are facing violence, abuse and exploitation while fleeing their homes in search of safety.
Lisa Schlein reports for VOA from Geneva.
United Nations officials say there has been a dramatic deterioration in the human rights situation in the country.
And this, they say, has increased the fear, deprivation and trauma of people who are seeing their hopes for a democratic society slip away as competing forces fight for power.
UN Human Rights spokeswoman Ravina Shandasani says thousands of people trapped in residential areas of intense fighting are subjected to mistreatment and abuse while fleeing from airstrikes and shelling.

Ukrainian officials say Russia has launched its second large salvo of missiles at Ukraine in recent days.
The attack damaged buildings and wounded at least 34 people but failed to hit Kyiv.
