The United States on Monday welcomed the Taliban’s declaration of a nationwide ceasefire in Afghanistan over this week’s Eid al-Fitr Festival.

ceasefire は「休戦、停戦」。このほかに「停戦」という意味でよく使われる語に truce があります。

Eid al-Fitr Festival は、イスラム教徒の断食明けの祭り、ラマダン明け祭りです。
over は「～の期間、～のあいだ」という意味で、over the weekend（週末に）などでよく使います。

take place と happen の違いに注意しましょう。混同して使う人もいますが、使い方が違います。take place は「予定していたことが起きる」ことに使います。いっぽう happen は「予期していなかったことが起きる」ことに使います。ですから、事故や地震などに take place は使いません。

blast「爆撃、爆発」
Afghan officials reported that at least 150 people, including young students, were also injured. No one has claimed responsibility for the attack.

including は前置詞のような働きをしています。

claimは「主張する」。

fuelled は fueled のようにつづることもあります。
bloodshed は「流血、殺害、虐殺」などという意味です。

withdrawal は withdraw の名詞形。
later this year の意味を勘違いしないように注意。「今年のうちの、このあと」という意味で、「今年遅く」ではありません。あとに by September 11th と続いています。これは１年のうちの後半には違いありませんが、「今年遅く」という意味合いにはならないくらいの時期です。
